Plymouth is going back to the ’60s this bank holiday weekend in tribute to Gipsy Moth IV’s homecoming. On Monday 28 May, a giant entertainment stage and 40 square-metre screen will be screening archive footage like this of Chichester’s 1967 arrival like thisas well as live coverage of Gipsy Moth sailing into view in Plymouth Sound.

Visitors to the city are being invited to dust off their flares and hippie gear and turn up in 1960s fancy dress to give the boat a massive Bank Holiday Monday welcome home. Award-winning tribute band The Fab Beatles will be playing two 40-minute sets, one set in pre-1967 ‘mop top’ costume and the other in Sgt Pepper and Abbey Road outfits. Entertainment starts at 1230hrs on Plymouth Hoe and finishes at around 1800 hrs – see below for full listings. This is one piece of history you don’t want to miss!

Itinerary: Monday 28 May

1230Entertainment starts on Plymouth Hoe – Live music, archive footage, fashion show, marine exhibitions, interviews and running commentary on Gipsy Moth IV’s arrival. A range of food and drink stands arranged for the public. Entertainment concludes around 1800 hrs.

1400Gipsy Moth IV reaches Plymouth breakwater and meets flotilla of supporting craft. The spectator vessel will then follow Gipsy Moth into Plymouth Sound amongst an armada of craft

1500Gipsy Moth sails into Plymouth Sound and is officially welcomed by Giles Chichester MEP, the Lord Mayor of Plymouth and representatives from the Isle of Wight. Original Gypsy Moth bi-plane to fly out and greet Gipsy Moth IV back from her travels

1530Gipsy Moth berths at Queen Anne’s Battery
