Father and son clung to upturned boat hull for four hours after capsize off Irish coast

A man’s body has been found in the sea off Cork after he and his son clung to their capsized boat for four hours.

The pair had reportedly tried to swim to shore.

Irish Coastguard recovered the body of the man, named as John O’Leary, from Barness in Allihies, from the sea near Cod’s Head, shortly after 1.30am on Tuesday.

Mr O’Leary and his teenage son were reportedly fishing on Monday afternoon when their boat capsized. The man was wearing a lifejacket.

A Castleberetown Lifeboat Station spokesman confirmed that emergency services were deployed at around 9.40pm.
