The RCC Pilotage Foundation has just opened its new pilotage website to anyone interested in browsing the wide range of publications maintained under the charitable remit established in 1976 when Dr Fred Ellis endowed the Foundation to “advance the science and practice of navigation”.

The continuing work of the RCC Pilotage Foundation and its team of authors keeps over 25 publications updated and in print for cruising areas all over the world. You can quickly view the scope and coverage of these highly regarded books on this first phase of the website. The new site includes a series of Passage Planning Guides containing all the initial information needed for yachtsmen planning passages to European destinations ranging from Faroe, Iceland and the Baltic to Spain and the Eastern Mediterranean.

The new site will also allow free access to a fascinating collection of publications covering far-flung cruising waters for which even a charitable foundation could not economically produce pilot books. The first of these e-publications will give pilotage information for South Georgia. Other areas are planned for the future.

Launching the new site, Francis Walker, Honorary Director of the Foundation, said that:

“The number of books maintained by the Pilotage Foundation has grown steadily and by browsing www.rccpf.org.uk you can select the best publication for your intended cruising area. The provision of free information on seldom visited but rewarding cruising areas is an important development in the furtherance of our charitable objectives”.
