Fife Sailability supported by Port Edgar Yacht Club donation

Fife Sailability, a charity that helps sailors with disabilities get out on the water, has been supported by a donation from Port Edgar Yacht Club. The Yacht Club used its annual dinner dance to raise funds for the local charity, which is aiming to compete at the 2017 Sailability Nationals and is hoping to buy a new boat.

Port Edgar YC was able to donate £900 from its 2016 dinner dance in November, which was presented to the charity on 18 December at their Last Race Trophy challenge prizegiving. Mr Merrick Yates from Fife Sailability was there on the 18th December to accept the donation. He thanked the Commodore and said, ‘We are committed to enter the National Championships for disabled sailors in 2017 and we badly need a new boat to be competitive. I don’t know what we would do without this contribution.’

Yacht racing and cruising takes place under the Forth rail and road bridges between March and December. This year’s Last Race Trophy was won by The Black Prince, skippered by club commodore Terry Kirchin.

The club is part of the Port Edgar facilities, which are currently subject to intensive regeneration. The marina has approximately 300 berths and facilities include shower block, laundry, sail makers, rigging specialists, chandlery, and gantry lift.
